THE PLOT:
Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers himself for the army to fight the Nazi Army in the time set of World War II. After he is said that he is not allowed to join due to his weak frame, Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) says that he would be perfect for a Top Secret research project that will morph him into the secret weapon that America needs to win the war. He is turned into Captain America, a superhero that is determined to defend America and the war from falling into the Nazi’s hands. However, there is one foe that Captain America has to face. Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) threatens to destroy the liberty that Captain America holds dear.
THE REVIEW:
This movie was a great way to take down the Nazi Party again. It seems that there are a LOT of WWII movies. I guess the Iraq War is nothing to make movies on even though The Hurt Locker won Best Picture. However, Captain America: The First Avenger was actually really good. Going in, I was timid because of the fact that I was thinking that they were going to make it seem all cheesy and “patriotic”. Granted it is called Captain America, but you don’t want too much patriotism in a movie. However, I was wrong to have doubts because the movie was great. Every time that there was a clear error in the movie, they do an awesome move to make it so that you don’t care about it.
I would have loved to see some parts of this in 3D, but I guess you can’t have everything I guess. It was really great that they stuck to the scenery of the movie and time period so many movies that are “past-time movies” have one or two errors where they have something that doesn’t belong. With Captain America, there were none. This is a good movie to take the kids too if you can’t get a babysitter. For me, we just gave our kid a blanket when Red Skull comes on screen. He even scared me a little. This was a great movie to go see with a lot of action scenes that are amazing. Definitely a must see in theaters. Don’t listen to the critics on this one and go see it.
OVERALL RATING
All in all, this movie hit the spot, but you are going to have to bring an extra soda with you in your bag because it is fairly long. Two hours for me was a little long with one soda. You will not be disappointed with this film and you are going to happy that you went. I loved how you are dragged into the movie and you really feel that you are part of the time period.
